The head of the German Vaccine Laboratory Shared Good News About the Antidote to the Coronavirus.
The development of a
coronavirus vaccine is a collaborative and cooperative competition over time,
the head of the vaccine laboratory at the German Ministry of Health told CNBC . He added that vaccines developed in
Germany will be tested on humans this year, but there are currently four types
of vaccines in the world where human experiments are already
underway. Development could take another 12 to 18 months, according to the
WHO, and there are about 70 vaccines under development in the world in total.
“Everyone works on vaccines for everyone. There is no such
thing as just America, Germany, or anyone else just getting the antidote,
”Klaus Cichutek, president of the Paul-Ehrich-Institut, told CNBC.
The expert added that the distribution of the vaccine will largely
depend on the properties of the product and how many doses can be produced from
it, and over what period of time.
“I can’t say it will be disseminated, but I’m sure everyone in the
world is committed not only to their country but also to key regions. It’s
a global endeavor: humanity needs a good vaccine and more than that, ”Cichutek
said.
There is also a good chance that those working in high-risk, key
industries will receive the vaccine first than healthcare workers.
Cichutek said biotec companies and academics are also working
together to develop the Covid-19 vaccine in the United States, China, the
United Kingdom and Germany. He said German vaccines will be tested on
humans later this year.
Cichutek also said one vaccine is currently being tested on people
in the UK, one in the US and two in China.
